![]() ![]() Daydreams and Nightmares by lambentLodestar.Though she seems to have moved on to the Dangan Ronpa fandom, her FE works are well worth a look. She's created some very compelling AUs during her time in the community and served as a major influence for Earthborne. Of special note is their "Dissonance" series, which contains two completed works and one in-progress. I don't believe I've ever read anything by them that I did not like. Possibly one of the most skilled writers in the community but unfortunately underappreciated for unfathomable reasons. You will find, however, that there's much more to see than the central gimmick. The main character "resets" upon death, much like Subaru in Re:ZERO. However, it is one of the most popular current fanfictions in the community. This one is a bit shameless, as the author is my friend and I beta read the chapters. Birth and Re-Death by ThreeDollarBratwurst.Portal's prose is sometimes rocky, but the story is original enough that you'll likely get considerable enjoyment out of it. However, the main idea is that the duo is transported to another realm, one you might be familiar with. On the surface, it's standard Leo/Sakura fare. As the author is a fan of science and chemistry, much of the plot revolves around introducing technology to the world, such as guns. The plot tends to avoid the pitfall of an overpowered or Mary Sue OC and also breaks away significantly from canon. This is the best Fates self-insert and one of the best overall. While there is no word from the author on its status, it contains over 300 chapters of content. Basically a collection of stand alone scenes featuring interactions between various characters. It's a classic and basically required reading for anyone interested in writing this pairing. Unfortunately, the author does appear to have abandoned the fic, but you should still read it. It delves greatly into Lucina's character and offers perhaps the best study of her personality. This is my vote for the best Robin/Lucina fanfiction. ![]() However, the tones and approaches are very different. I consider it and Another Again to be competitors of sorts, since they have similar premises, publication dates, and fan followings. It also features a Robin, female this time, who travels back to the beginning with her memories still intact. Like Another Again, this fic is an extremely popular ongoing work, just ahead in follows, making it the most followed FE fanfiction on FFN. Currently the second most followed FE fic on FFN, it presents a curious question: what if Robin woke up back at the beginning of the game with all his memories from his first run? Running with that concept, Yosei Ranbu creates an incredibly entertaining story that constantly toys with reader expectations. Of all ongoing FE fanfictions, this is one of the most popular. Fire Emblem: Awakening - Another Again by Yosei Ranbu. The writing style may be off-putting for some, as it's heavily influenced by screenwriting, but Asleep offers what is still the primary influence behind most SIs that came after it. While the fic is incomplete and unlikely to ever be finished, you owe it to yourself to read what's there. Perhaps the most famous of all Fire Emblem self-inserts, Asleep is always a great place to start. The prose is engaging, the plot intriguing, and each character is lively and true to their canon selves. Though technically a self-insert in practice, the fic subverts many common tropes associated with the genre. Another massive fic, this time at over 800k words, Cycle is my personal favorite Fire Emblem fanfiction. Mostly crackfic, but recommended after reading his magnum opus. Note: metallover has also written a couple SI fics within Awakening as well. Clocking in at nearly 700k words, it's a gargantuan work but worth your time. Essentially, it is a novelization of Fire Emblem: Awakening, though it features heavy canon divergence. This is one of the most well-known Fire Emblem fanfictions and among the best written. If you feel I've excluded a worthy fic (I'm sure I have), please comment and let me know! Hopefully, these will kickstart your reading! Each entry is accompanied by a description of the work and my personal thoughts. Here is a list of Fire Emblem fanfiction I consider to be beneficial reading for anyone looking to get into the community. ![]()
